ISLAND (NAIMA BOCK & DAN CAREY) MAYBE THE LIGHT

Streatham-based producer Dan Carey has combined forces with the arboraceous London folk singer Naima Bock on Speedy Wunderground's Quarantine Series, in a project they're calling ISLAND. 'Maybe the Light' is the 5th track to emerge from the series, which features various artists including Dan's noise project Savage Gary, Kate Tempest and Heartworms. The new track sees Naima's earthy plucked guitar layered over one of Dan's woody analogue drum machines, creating a tone that's both peaceful and brooding. Naima's vocals are grounded and angelic, littered with high harmonies which shadow the lead, singing "it may be the light from your hand to mine". Haunting scattered thumb piano and synth that resembles tiny summer bugs comes out between verses, adding a spine-tingling eeriness. 'Maybe the Light' is a delicate marvel, which bridges the gap between winter and spring - listen here. -Ellie Rose-Davies
